Doctor Octopus, often shortened to Doc Ock, is a prominent villain in Marvel Comics, primarily known as an adversary of Spider-Man.
Otto Octavius was a brilliant, albeit arrogant, nuclear physicist and inventor. He designed a set of advanced mechanical arms controlled via a brain-computer interface to assist him in handling radioactive materials. However, during an experiment, a radiation leak occurred, bonding the arms permanently to his body and damaging his brain. This accident warped his personality, turning him into the criminal mastermind known as Doctor Octopus.
Doc Ock's mechanical arms grant him incredible strength, speed, and dexterity. He uses them for a variety of purposes, including combat, manipulation of objects, and scaling walls. His intellect, combined with his powerful appendages, makes him a formidable threat.
Doctor Octopus first appeared in *The Amazing Spider-Man* #3 (July 1963).
